Councilmember Kenny Gabriel

Kenny Gabriel has been a resident of Coeur d’Alene for 43 years, dedicating his life to public service. He started as a volunteer firefighter and eventually rose to the position of Chief of the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department. Additionally, he was part of a small team that designed and implemented the current Emergency Medical Services System for Kootenai County, which has been adopted by various agencies nationwide and is recognized as one of the most successful systems in the United States.

Kenny has been honored with the State of Idaho Firefighter of the Year Award. His extensive service includes being a member of the Prichard-Murray Volunteer Fire Department Board of Commissioners, President of the Idaho State Fire Chief’s Association, and recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also served as a four-term President of the North Idaho Fire Chiefs, Chairman of the Idaho State Fire Chief’s Association Legislative Committee, City of Coeur d’Alene Legislative Committee Member, Association of Idaho Cities Technical Advisory Committee Member, member of the Idaho State Fire Service Training Advisory Board, and Board Member of the Inland Empire Juvenile Firesetter Task Force. Kenny's commitment to his community extends beyond his professional achievements. He volunteered with numerous community organizations such as the Salvation Army Kroc Center Board, North Idaho College Vocational Technical Education Advisory Board, Coeur d’Alene American Legion Board, and the Idaho Youth Ranch Programs Committee, among others.

Looking ahead, Kenny envisions a community where the city and residents work hand-in-hand to create a safer, more resilient environment. He believes that fostering strong relationships between city officials and citizens is crucial for addressing the challenges faced by the community.
