The City Attorney is the legal advisor for the City of Coeur d’Alene and the Director of the City’s Legal Department. The Legal Department consists of two divisions, the Civil Division and the Criminal Division (also known as the Prosecutor’s Office). Through the Civil Division, the Legal Department represents the City and its officials in all matters related to public business. The Criminal Division prosecutes all infractions and misdemeanors committed in the City.
Because the City Attorney’s client is the City, the Mayor, and the City Council, the attorneys in the Legal Department cannot provide legal advice to members of the public. Members of the public with legal concerns or questions should consult a private attorney.
