The City of Coeur d'Alene Drainage Utility was created and adopted to manage stormwater drainage in a manner that protects the public's health, safety and water quality.  Also in order to meet federally mandated regulations for discharging stormwater and to finance the associated stormwater related infrastructure costs, improvements and maintenance.

The Drainage Utility focuses on reducing the potential for stormwater pollution and improving the City of Coeur d'Alene's stormwater infrastructure while protecting water quality.

The Clean Water Act of 1972, as amended in 1987, requires that stormwater discharges to surface waters comply with a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. The permit outlines how our community must work together to keep pollutants out of our stormwater and our environment.
