Mayor Woody McEvers has called North Idaho home since 1977, after leaving the beaches and desert of Southern California. He and his brother Daren purchased the popular downtown Coeur d’Alene restaurant Rustler’s Roost in 1983 which they still run and has become a legendary community institution.
Woody’s city experience started with the Traffic Safety Commission in 1997 where he served for two years. He was then appointed to the City Planning Commission and served for five years.
Elected to the City Council in 2002, Woody believes government should be responsible to its citizens through honesty, integrity, and fiscal responsibility. He is a member of the City’s Public Works Commission and was instrumental in the creation of Coeur d’Alene’s government cable TV station (now also streaming online) called CDA-TV. He is the Chairman of the Board of the Kootenai County EMS System and has served since 2004. He is also a member of the Lake City Center Board supporting senior citizens since 2016.
During Woody's years of service, many important projects have been completed. A small selection includes: the Public Library, Kroc Center, two new Fire Stations to serve citizens, Atlas Mill Site Park, McEuen Park revitalization, Riverstone Development, expansion of the Wastewater Treatment Facility to state-of-the-art status, creation of the city’s newest water wells, and a new Coeur d’Alene Skate Park.
Woody believes deeply that the City Council and the Mayor strive to do what is best for Coeur d’Alene citizens today and in the future. One person CAN make a difference. He encourages Coeur d’Alene citizens to consider getting involved in our great city and understand how our city government works.
