The City of Coeur d'Alene has adopted a standard policy related to providing water service inside and outside City limits. All residents and businesses within the incorporated city receive water service from the City of Coeur d'Alene.
Coeur d'Alene acquired a private system owned by Idaho Water Company in 1974, and therefore provides service to some non-incorporated areas outside of City limits. The adopted policy provides the rules for how new water connections are provided in those unincorporated areas. The rules are intended to standardize how a property owner can qualify for service and provides clarity and fairness.
Water service outside City limits provides for three basic tiers:
Lots in "approved" outside City limits subdivisions were guaranteed access when the City acquired Idaho Water Company's facilities.
Lots that abut mains but are not contiguous to City limits may petition for one connection and must sign a Water Service Agreement regarding City right of future annexation.
Lots contiguous to City limit boundaries must annex prior to service connection.
