Mayor Jim Hammond Announces Resignation

Mayor Jim Hammond has announced his resignation, effective August 31, 2024. He and his wife plan to relocate to Colorado to be closer to their youngest son and grandchildren.


In a message addressed to the Councilmembers and City Department Heads, Mayor Hammond expressed gratitude for their support and kindness. "It has been a privilege to work with and learn from you.  I am making known my impending departure now to ensure that you have sufficient time to select my successor," he remarked.


Mayor Hammond was elected as Mayor of the City of Coeur d’Alene in 2021. Previously, he served as an Idaho State Senator for six years, Mayor of Post Falls for five years, City Councilmember for nine years, and City Administrator for Coeur d’Alene.  His dedication to public service was demonstrated by his membership on various Boards and Commissions, including the Planning and Zoning Commission, Idaho State Building Authority, Idaho State Board of Education, Education Commission of the States, Chairman of Idaho State Charter Commission, Idaho Racing Commission, Panhandle Area Council Board, Post Falls Chamber Board, United Way Board, Jobs Plus Board, Post Falls Food Bank Board, and Post Falls Education Foundation Board.


Mayor Hammond expressed confidence in the future of our City and its citizens and said that he’s leaving the City in the hands of strong and dedicated public servants whose only desire is to make Coeur d’Alene the very best it can be.


The City Council will select a successor to fulfill the remainder of Mayor Hammond's term. ###
