Vehicle Identifcation Number Inspections

The Coeur d'Alene Police Department provides Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) inspections to Coeur d'Alene residents on a first come, first served basis during designated hours, subject to personnel and facilities availability. Please see the below details:

  • The cost for this service is $5.00 per vehicle. Fees must be prepaid prior to inspections.
  • Hours for VIN inspections are currently Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (except holidays). No appointment is necessary.
  • Payment can be made at the Police Departments Records Division Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Payment can be made via cash, check, debit or credit card.
    • Debit and Credit card fees are as follows:
      • Under $40 charge = $1.00 minimum fee
      • Over $40 charge = 2.5% fee
  • A valid ID (driver’s license, state ID card) is required for identification.
  • If the vehicle is drivable you can bring it to the Coeur d'Alene Police Department for inspection. If the vehicle is inoperable, we will respond to the location of the vehicle within the City of Coeur d'Alene.
  • Have the last registration or title available for the person conducting the inspection.
  • You must locate the VIN identification number on the vehicle prior to law enforcement personnel responding.
