A ceremonial groundbreaking on the construction of the K27 Memorial project will be 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at McEuen Park’s pedestrian bridge.

The completely privately fundraised project is to honor Coeur d’Alene Police Department Sgt. Greg Moore, killed in the line of duty in 2015, along with all fallen law enforcement officers.

Fundraising on the first phase of construction has been successfully completed, though the Panhandle Parks Foundation is inviting community members to continue to donate to help provide for additional amenities such as benches, landscaping material, lighting and more. The area is receiving some initial preparation for construction by City Parks crew members and actual construction may begin September 6. As the project is privately funded and managed, the Parks Foundation has contracted with Clearwater Summit for construction. The City has made space within McEuen Park available for the memorial.
