* Back to (Home) School: Thursday, Aug. 17, 1-2:30 p.m. Families who are considering homeschooling or are old hands at home education are invited to attend this conversation about the resources available at the library. Suggestions will also be accepted for items about the subject that the library could add to its collection.
* Author Talk with Heather Branstetter: Thursday, Aug. 17, 7 p.m. The executive director of the Historic Wallace Preservation Society will discuss her book, “Selling Sex in the Silver Valley: A Business Doing Pleasure.” Copies of the book will be available for purchase for signing and a portion of sales will benefit the Friends of the Library.
* Coeur d’Con: Saturday, Aug. 19, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library’s third annual celebration of all things geeky will feature panels, fan meetups, crafts, activities, gaming, and vendors culminating in the announcement of the cosplay competition winners. The entries in the Coeur d’Con Fan Art Contest are on display in the library from now through the event and the public is invited to vote on their favorites. More information can be found at

* Lake City Public Library: Aug. 21. The public library branch in the high school on Ramsey Road will reopen after the annual school maintenance and will resume its summer hours, Monday through Thursday, 12-5 p.m. Following the Labor Day weekend, the branch resumes its school-year hours, 3-6:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
* Solar Eclipse Party: Begins at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, in the park behind the library. The eclipse is expected to begin at 9:13 a.m. and continue through about 11:45 a.m. Refreshments and eclipse-viewing glasses – while the supply last – will be available. The glasses are NOT being distributed at the library prior to the program.
* Pageturners Library Book Club: Wednesday, Aug. 23, 10:15 a.m. Fay Sweeney will lead a discussion of “Indian Creek Chronicles” by Peter Fromm. The book is available to check out at the Research and Information Desk and the discussion is open to any adult reader. Books have been provided by the Idaho Commission for Libraries through its Let’s Talk About It program.
* Inland Northwest Milestones: Thursday, Aug. 24, 7 p.m. Regional historian Robert Singletary looks at the history of farming in North Idaho as part of this monthly series presented in partnership with the Museum of North Idaho.
* “Bud’s Place,” a Film by George Sibley: Friday, Aug. 25, 7 p.m. This free documentary film examines the life of Bud Moore, district ranger, wilderness advocate, and pioneer conservationist. Sibley has previously presented films at the library about the Big Burn of 1910, fresh-water sturgeon restoration, and explorer and mapmaker David Thompson. This screening is sponsored by the Friends of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.
