Two trees at the edge of City Park near Fort Grounds Drive will be removed this week in order to protect public safety after the death of the trees.

The Coeur d'Alene Parks & Recreation Department is coordinating the removal of the trees at the north side of City Park, one dead ponderosa pine tree and a dead grand fir tree. It is important to remove dead trees in a timely manner for safety purposes as the dead wood starts to breakdown.

Sun Valley Tree Service will conduct the work, and while Fort Grounds Drive will not be closed during the removal, pedestrians and motorists are advised to use caution during the work.  The company will remove the trees November 16 and November 17 by using a lift and removing small sections at a time.

The City will retain portions of the trees. Two 10-foot-tall stumps will be left for future stump art carvings. The City has two pieces of wood art that had bases damaged by ants. They will be repaired and placed on top of the stumps.
